May the 4th be with you.

Today is a fun day for movie fans, geeky fandom enthusiasts, and appreciators of puns. In the fandom world of nerdy movie lovers, today is Star Wars Day. Because, you know, May the 4th is a pun sounding like “May the Force (be with you)”.

Back in the day, I would celebrate Star Wars day by making some cupcakes with Star Wars cupcake wrappers or decorating picks, make some random Star Wars themed drink, and probably chill out watching the original trilogy (the second trilogy prequels didn’t impress me).

Now, with ZooFit, Star Wars day has a different meaning. I am a nerdy girl, always and forever. But I enjoy celebrating my favorite “holidays” a little different. I wore my (only) Star Wars shirt to the gym for class and to the park for my ZooFit workout. The workout we did was a Star Wars workout I created last year:

Set 1- A New Hope

  • 20 Obi-Wan Overhead Squats
  • 20 Leia Lunges (each leg)
  • 20 Skywalker Skaters (each leg)
  • 20 Chewbacca Crunches
  • 50 Star Wars Step-ups

Set 2- The Force Awakens

  • 20 BB-8 Burpees
  • 20 Kylo Ren Cleans
  • 20 The Force Flutterkicks (each leg)
  • 20 Millennium Falcon Mountain Climbers (each leg)
  • 50 Star Wars Step-ups

Set 3- The Empire Strikes Back (aka- the Villain Set)

  • 20 Darth Vader V-ups
  • 20 Death Star Deadlifts
  • 20 Palpatine Push-ups
  • 20 Boba Fett Burpees
  • 50 Star Wars Step-ups

I also forced my nerdy geekdom onto my class this morning. I teach the Masters Class at CrossFit. They are a fun group, and I try to make class as enjoyable as possible each day. So, I couldn’t help but share this gem with them. For Masters, I modified the workout to accommodate everyone. I dropped the step-ups to 20 the first set, 30 the second set, and 20 the third set. I also teach how to modify each exercise, such as mountain climbers, push-ups, and burpees against a bench or box.

We are totally getting these yoga mats, slam balls, and kettle bells- JUST to use for next year!

I’m not sure how my class really LIKED the Star Wars workout, but it was fun to break up the normal routine with something completely different. And I wanted to share how we can make each day special for our fitness. I’ll find out next week if I get hate comments from class on Facebook.
