Eat Good Fat, Get Fit

I’ve been reading quite a few books helping me in my quest to find a perfect Eating Green model. So far, I’m finding that a little more difficult than I anticipated. My research and experience is showing there is no “perfect model”, but taking a little from each program and expert I discover. Continue reading Eat Good Fat, Get Fit

Meal Prep: It’s What’s For Dinner

If someone were to ask me for my number one recommendation for eating healthy and having the largest positive impact on the planet, I would deeply consider telling them about Meal Prepping. Continue reading Meal Prep: It’s What’s For Dinner

The Other Side of Meal Prep: Meal Planning

This week I’ve been very focused on ways to improve my willpower when it comes to eating right. For instance, my writing group meets at a restaurant with very few healthy options. I don’t like to complain too much, because the restaurant lets us meet for up to 5 hours, every week, and they don’t charge us, and they don’t make us purchase food from them either. It’s a nice quiet area with spectacular views of Mount Baker. Since the restaurant doesn’t allow outside food, I have one of two choices. I can eat right before I go to group and right after group, or I can buy something to eat there. Continue reading The Other Side of Meal Prep: Meal Planning

Meal Prep Saves Lives

Meal Prep Saves Lives.

Well, it saves forests. And saving forests saves lives- animals who live and depend on forests, and even us mighty humans. Without trees, we would literally not be able to breathe, so trees and the forests are kind of a big deal. Continue reading Meal Prep Saves Lives

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 17- Making the Most of What You Got

There’s something about living a locavore life which excites me. My husband and I not as frugal as some friends.  We splurged on a 28-week CSA, and I’m willing to pay extra at the farmers markets. But sometimes I like the free stuff.

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 13- Save Room for Pie

Today was a lesson in how to practice sustainability and healthy eating while still enjoying your treats. It was a special occasion for my CrossFit gym. The old owners are moving to New Orleans and wanted to have a going away party. We all wanted our new lords and masters to feel welcome with pomp and circumstance.

So, we held a huge party with the entire membership. And there was a pie contest. Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 13- Save Room for Pie

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 10- Hug Your Farmer

Have you hugged your farmer today?

I almost missed my chance to do so. Every year, Chris and I sign up for a CSA- community supported agriculture. Last year, though, we received some bad news. Our normal farm-share, Ebb Tide, was closing up shop. We needed to find another farm.

Luckily we live on Whidbey Island, a farmer market’s wet dream. There are several farms selling shares, and we easily found one close to us. Skyroot Farm. Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 10- Hug Your Farmer

Whole30 Rant

Whole30 is a program where you remove certain foods from your diet, such as processed foods, addictive sugary foods, foods with a history of causing inflammation, and foods with high correlation to allergies. For thirty days, you maintain a steady diet of whole vegetables and unprocessed meats. This is essentially resetting your body by removing all the potential negative foods, and letting your body settle into a completely natural and whole diet. After thirty days, you reintroduce the foods you eliminated, one by one, and evaluate how your body and how your brain responds and reacts to it. Continue reading Whole30 Rant

In Which Everything I Know About Fitness is a Lie

Okay, I know that’s not true. Deep down, in the recesses of my cerebral cortex, I know everything I’ve learned about fitness is NOT really a lie. I know taking care of yourself means eating healthy foods and exercising. I know we should cut down on sugars, and simple carbs, and starches, and saturated fats. I know eating whole fruits and veggies is good for us.  Continue reading In Which Everything I Know About Fitness is a Lie

Satisfying Your Sweet Tooth the ZooFit Way

I’ve been on the fence about how to present this seemingly delicate subject matter, and the most comfortable platform is obviously writing on my blog where only a small limited number of people will actually see it to dispute or argue with me. For some reason, the topic of sugar versus honey is very touchy. Continue reading Satisfying Your Sweet Tooth the ZooFit Way
