100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 89: Social Media for the Writer

Sometimes I feel living in this new age of technology and connectiveness to, well, everything is a bit of a blessing and a curse.  I’m not the most tech savvy person on the planet, as my husband will certainly attest.  And sometimes I feel this new age breaks us away from nature and the great outdoors which can be somewhat detrimental to our well-being, and the planet’s.  But living in this age can benefit those of us who have something important to share with the world, and social media can definitely be a unique tool for the writer to share their story to a broader audience.social-media-explained-for-indie-writers-767x1024 Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 89: Social Media for the Writer

100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 79: The One Where Trying New Things Paid Off

I have filled my calendar with tons of events this month, and while I have enjoyed all of the talks, movies, and volunteer opportunities for the most part, nothing has compared to the pleasant and wonderful surprise of attending a Toastmasters meeting!  I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy it nearly as much as I did!  In fact, I haven’t been this excited about something in a very, very long time!  This seems to be the time when trying brand new experiences has paid off in a major way! 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 78: Exploring Our New Neighborhood

My husband and I have been on the island for nearly a month, but we haven’t had much opportunity to actually see some of the sights.  We’ve been to Greenbank Farm, Deception Pass, and Ebey’s Landing on previous visits, but somehow we felt it would be different to experience some of these places as residents.  So, we decided it was time to go exploring our new neighborhood, as the new kids in town. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 65: Tiny Habits

I am not usually one to sit around and watch TEDx all day.  But this TEDx by BJ Fogg just blew my mind.  Not for sharing information that I didn’t know, but for sharing it in such an understandable way for anyone to comprehend and learn.  I’ve often said that in order to reach fitness goals, you have to break the behavior up into smaller steps.  But that’s animal training psycho-jargon.  BJ Fogg simplified my philosophy for me!  Create tiny habits. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 62: Getting Healthy? There’s an App for That

I’m trying an experiment for the next few weeks that is going to end up being a little time consuming, but probably well worth the effort.  While I pride myself on being a techno-phobe, I do recognize the value of several smart phone apps that help people track, log, and plan their workouts, meals, diet, and even grocery shopping.   Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 62: Getting Healthy? 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 58: A Seinfeld Type of Day

If you ever ask what the show Seinfeld was about, your answer will be that it was a show about nothing.  I know I did a bunch of stuff- did laundry (including both heavy blankets where the Monster kitty threw up a hairball), I made a breakfast casserole, stopped by the library to pick up my copies of “Seeds of Hope” by Jane Goodall, drove all the way to Padilla Bay outside of Anacortes for Beach Naturalist training, and even went grocery shopping to last through Saturday, when I am able to attend our first Whidbey Island farmers market.  But I feel like it was a Seinfeld type of day.  A day where nothing happened. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 52: Exploring Opportunities

I have only been on the Island for three days, and I’m already overwhelmed at all the possibilities that lay before me!  I have spent a couple of days simply exploring opportunities available to me as a conservationist, writer, and fitness fanatic.

100 Ways of EarthFit-Day 42: Last Chance in Portland

I had a great day with the hubby exploring Portland one last time before we move next Sunday.  It was one last chance to experience some of the things we have enjoyed about living in Oregon, and either can’t or won’t have the opportunities to experience once we are on Whidbey Island. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 36: Forest Fairy Locks

Once upon a time, for that is how all stories worth reading begin, there was a magical place.  It held all the mysticism and wonder of every beautiful forest, waterfall, rainbow, and mountain on the earth.  Within the magical land, there was life and love and laughter. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 32: Good Form, I Say

Visiting a great CrossFit box for a trial membership has been great for me to work on fitness goals that I just don’t have the equipment or facility to practice at times.  But more than anything, I’m really proud of myself for not bending to the pressure of competition or feeling like I’m going too slow.  This week, I’ve said screw it to Rx weights, and didn’t pay the least bit of attention to my time (until I was finished with my workout).  I’ve been working solely on good form and taking time to do the exercises right.
