100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 66: Glass Half-Full Kind of Day

I had one heck of a productive day.  And there are some considerations that would suggest it would be just a tiring day, but no!  Today was a “Glass Half-Full” kind of day!  And I also just noticed that I’m 2/3 done with my writing challenge.  I’ve written a blog post everyday for 66 days.  Now, THIS is becoming a habit!pessimist-glass-half-empty-optimist-glass-half-full-me-room-to-add-vodka Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 66: Glass Half-Full Kind of Day

100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 59: Buff Beach Bum

I should learn my lesson about bad-mouthing how a day goes, because then something is going to happen to shut me right up the next day.  While I may have felt unaccomplished with happenings yesterday, today was pack full of inspiration.  I guess I’ll have to buckle down and pick just one thing, and I think the best topic for the day was Double Bluff Beach workout.  Just call me the Double Bluff Buff Beach Bum.   Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 59: Buff Beach Bum

100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 56: Hoppy Easter!

In CrossFit, for special holidays and member birthdays, an especially difficult and challenging workout is usually planned.  It’s CrossFit’s way of saying they care, I guess.  I like incorporating similar challenges for my Bootcamp, where I typically have a particular workout planned for certain holidays.  With it being Easter, I wanted to do a workout that would exclaim “Hoppy Easter!” in a most challenging way. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 54: First Whidbey Island Workout

I am trying to establish routines as quickly as possible before I get sucked into the vortex of lounging around the house, doing a whole lot of nothing, and complaining that I’m not satisfied.  Part of life satisfaction comes from doing the ground work and setting accomplishing goals and routines.  I had already taken over a week off from working out to finish packing and getting ready for our great move, now was time to get off our rears and DO SOMETHING!  Trying to explore several options, we ventured out to do our first Whidbey Island workout.  Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 54: First Whidbey Island Workout

100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 53: Creating Brand New Habits From Scratch

When I started my fitness journey in 2014, I created healthy habits that became a part of my routine and lifestyle.  This included my eating habits, workout habits, and even my drinking (water) and supplement habits.  I now drink way more water than I ever thought possible.  I eat more vegetables and fruit than processed snacks.   I log my meals.  Some habits need extra practice, and I decided that with our move and fresh start, now would be a great time to practice some of these habits that need refreshing, and also creating brand new habits from scratch. Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 53: Creating Brand New Habits From Scratch

100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 44: OrangeTheory Fitness

I got a phone call from OrangeTheory Fitness center about my membership I had reserved a couple months ago.  I hadn’t forgotten about it per se, but I kept forgetting to call them during their business hours to cancel my membership.  I told them about my situation and they still invited me to their facility for a free workout.  And who am I to say no to a free killer workout?   Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 44: OrangeTheory Fitness

100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 32: Good Form, I Say

Visiting a great CrossFit box for a trial membership has been great for me to work on fitness goals that I just don’t have the equipment or facility to practice at times.  But more than anything, I’m really proud of myself for not bending to the pressure of competition or feeling like I’m going too slow.  This week, I’ve said screw it to Rx weights, and didn’t pay the least bit of attention to my time (until I was finished with my workout).  I’ve been working solely on good form and taking time to do the exercises right. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 31: Great Workout, Anytime

With my husband off to his figure drawing open studio and my late shift at the wildlife refuge, I decided to forego another CrossFit WOD for the day, and finished my trial membership at Anytime Fitness, just down the street from the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge.   Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 31: Great Workout, Anytime

100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 30: Take Time to Do Things Right

My husband and I got around to trying out a CrossFit box not too far from where we live that offers a free week trial.  Trial memberships are something I strongly advocate, as they help you see if the money you will be spending is worth your while.  CrossFit is something that we both wish we could afford because it provides a perfect workout in an ideal atmosphere.  Our first workout at CrossFit Code Red was so incredibly perfect for me, I felt I needed to discuss it further. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 16: The Little Things

I don’t know any fitness facility or gym that centers around conservation in their practices.  Most facilities have the most updated equipment but don’t worry themselves with aspects of decreasing their carbon footprint, or conserving water or electricity, or preserving species.  So, when I check out gyms on a trial membership, I look for the little things.

This week I’ve been visiting Workout Anytime, a small 24-hour gym just down the street from us.  It is a very small gym, but it packs a powerful punch.  I think what was so refreshing to me was all the little things.  It was especially refreshing when some of the bigger gyms we had visited in the past didn’t have little features that made it more endearing to me.  For instance, they have water bottle fillers attached to their water fountains.  It may not seem like much, but it’s a small feature that promotes reusable bottles.  Their bathrooms have energy saving lights that come on automatically when you walk in.  Their vending machine only offers clean energy snacks.  I want to do some more research on some of their products because I’m not really sure how great “Muscle Milk” is, but they also offer Quest Bars, and I’ve done a little digging into Quest products, and they are in my top 5 favorite products for eating clean, healthy, and green.

Workout Anytime has most of the popular fitness equipment- treadmills, ellipticals, and spin cycles, as well as benches and smith machines for squats.  But what was great for me and my husband was all the CrossFit-type of equipment they have- kettlebells, sandbags, plyo boxes for box jumps, row machines, and pull-up station (of course, I strained my trapezius on our first day doing my first pull-up, which basically ruined my workout, but that’s besides the point).

The cost is next to nothing for this tiny place that has all these little extra amenities.  This place is so positive, we are seriously considering joining.  We have a couple more places we want to try out, but I’m actually feeling like those other gyms are going to have to step up their game if they want to compete with a place like Workout Anytime.  It’s one of the hidden gems for fitness and doing your part to make the world a little better.

Now, I’m going to bed to sleep like a baby after our super-met-con this afternoon.
