30 Days of ZooFit: Day 30- Creativity 101

If anyone were to ask me what is the best website for learning and growing our mind, body, and yes, even our soul, I would recommend Brian Johnson’s Optimize. He discusses everything to live the best version of yourself, from health and fitness to meditation to being your most creative self. I have learned a lot from his Philosopher’s Notes and his Master Classes. Most of what he teaches is in complete flow with ZooFit.  Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 30- Creativity 101

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 29-The Summer Job

Working on my books has been a great experience. I set my own hours, which is great in theory, but in practice I need improvement. I’ve gotten lazier and lazier about waking up, getting started, and staying motivated. My writing has gotten a little better, and I’ve really developed ZooFit, but I am feeling a little bored with depression creeping up in the background.  Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 29-The Summer Job

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 27- Least Reinforcing Scenario

Today I presented a class on Creativity for my writing group. While listening to the section on dealing with “trolls”, I was reminded of a powerful lesson I learned as a zookeeper in dealing with setbacks. To be truly successful and to maintain a positive mindset, you must deal with setbacks and mistakes with only a positive approach. In animal training, we typically use the Least Reinforcing Scenario. 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 25- The Creation of ZooFit

How did ZooFit become ZooFit? Why do I call it ZooFit? It’s story time, folks. Who doesn’t love a good origin story?  Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 25- The Creation of ZooFit

30 Days oF ZooFit: Day 24- Modify, Scale, Do What You Can

Over the weekend, while in Las Vegas, I did something to my neck. Slept on it wrong, didn’t gamble enough, whiplash from spending so much on booze and books at the auction. Who knows?

What I do know are two things. One, it hurts to jostle my neck around. Two, I still can do a workout. Continue reading 30 Days oF ZooFit: Day 24- Modify, Scale, Do What You Can

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 23- ZooFit’s Guide to Mental Health

I tote a lot of advice and promotion to physical health and well-being, but rarely touch on the topic of mental health. Perhaps because I think of myself as a little mentally unstable, I don’t think I’m qualified to share on the subject. But fear not, while I remain mostly crazy, I do have thoughts on getting mentally fit as well as physically. And yes, it revolves around having fun and saving the earth.  Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 23- ZooFit’s Guide to Mental Health

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 22- Everyday is Earth Day

There are few exciting holidays for zookeepers. Christmas and Thanksgiving are often spent with our fur/feather/scaled families because, guess what? Animals have to eat. Daily. It’s weird, I know. But such is life of a zookeeper.

Know what holidays zookeepers DO get excited over? April 22. Earth Day. It’s not exactly celebrated by everyone, but it is an important day for zookeepers. Earth Day is the one day out of the year everyone gets to be a zookeeper and care for the planet. Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 22- Everyday is Earth Day

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 21- Life Safari

One of my current favorite books right now is Nerd Fitness founder, Steve Kamb’s book Level Up Your Life. I really admire this book on a whole new level after experiencing the difficulties to get published in this industry. But beyond Steve being a literary hero, he’s a life hero to me as well. Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 21- Life Safari

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 19- Stay Positive

I’m having a little issue taking my own advice today. Stay positive. The difficulties getting into the published world of writing is becoming more and more clear. I know I have what it takes to stay the course, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it. Continue reading 30 Days of ZooFit: Day 19- Stay Positive

30 Days of ZooFit: Day 17- Making the Most of What You Got

There’s something about living a locavore life which excites me. My husband and I not as frugal as some friends.  We splurged on a 28-week CSA, and I’m willing to pay extra at the farmers markets. But sometimes I like the free stuff.
