Whenever I’m cooking, I have several questions in mind. First, is the food healthy? Can I make the recipe healthier? Can I substitute something with less saturated fat or fewer calories? Second, is the food sustainable? Is eating this food contributing to the decline of certain species? Is it farmed, caught, killed, harvested, or produced in sustainable ways? And lastly, is the recipe flexible? If I didn’t come up with the recipe myself, I tweak it a bit until I have a recipe I created on my own. Can I change the flavors without losing the taste? Will my picky husband eat it? Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 11: Tuna recipes
Every now and then we humans should take a step back and just stop growing up for a moment. Stop being so adult for a little while and see the world with children’s eyes and try stomping in puddles. See the wonder that is around us and explore our surroundings as if for the first time. Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 10: Puddle Stompers
Last night I had a cat in my lap and that was my excuse for not doing my Glute Exercises that I should do for physical therapy. But tonight he is sleeping soundly by himself, so I have nothing holding me back. It’s time to get into the glutes groove! Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 9: Get into the Glutes Groove!
I thought I might be on a role today. I finished my grocery shopping and did NOT buy unnecessary snacks (although I was tempted more than once). I stayed within my calories, drank a pre-workout, took all my supplements, and went to a new gym to do a 20 minute interval on the elliptical and a 20 minute round of Death By Goblet Squats. I did cave and snack on some corn tortilla shells while making Teriyaki Tofu Lettuce Wraps for dinner. But all I needed and wanted to do this evening before I wrote my post was to complete my Glute Exercises so I would have “something worth writing about”. Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 8: Something Worth Writing About
I am feeling incredibly down in the dumps. I mean, lower than normal. I’ve been tracking my weight for the last week or so and I have actually returned to my weight when I first got into fitness. Since this summer, I have gained 25 pounds. I don’t know exactly how. Except for all those little things. Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 7: Taking my own advice
Today I volunteered at the Wildlife Refuge, something I regularly do on Saturday mornings since Chris is usually at his open studio. While at the refuge, I started reading a book called “Bird Watching for Dummies”. It was a quick read, but maybe not the perfect one for me to get hooked on Birding as a pastime. There are several other Birding Basics books at the store where I work, so I feel I have plenty of time to explore the possibility of becoming a birder. Honestly, if anyplace is going to turn me, it’s the Tualatin River Wildlife Refuge.
I was considering writing about Birding today, but I only read one book and I don’t have enough information. But reading the book reminded me of an important aspect I developed for EarthFit, which is “Experiencing Nature”. And with that came, wouldn’t you guess it, a list! Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 6: Experiencing Nature 101
Considering my background with Asian animals, it’s little wonder I have something of an obsession with discovering simple ways to protect their homes in the rainforests. But I’m not just concerned for orangutans, hornbills, elephant, and tigers. I worry about sloths, tapirs, toucans, and jaguars in South America as well. I worry about all the animals, as we are making the world increasingly smaller. Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 5: Healthy Cuppa
I thought about taking an “off” day today, and just lounging around being a general lazy-bum. But then I got into my new online Nutritional Education Certificate program I started earlier in the week, and I ended up plowing through the remainder of the lessons, taking good notes, and passing yet another exam to receive my certificate in Nutrition. Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 4: Nutritional Education
Already I am deviating from what I intended to discuss on this day. But as I was cooking lunch, and came across an interesting “dilemma”. I was making a favorite bulk recipe for Quinoa and Chicken Salad, and I was trying different flavors to see how I could change the recipe up a little. Continue reading 100 Days of EarthFit- Day 3: Playing with Flavors
Today is Groundhog Day, one of my favorite “holidays”. I have to thank Bill Murray for my love of Groundhog Day, though. If it weren’t for the cult classic, I would never think twice about a holiday where we put all our faith in weather predictions on a large rodent.
