Sine Cosine! Cosine Sine! 3.14159!  March 14th isn’t a national holiday, but how fun would it be if it were?!  I love nerdy celebratory days, like Star Wars Day (May the 4th) and Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19th).  I am particularly fond of Pi Day, as it is a great opportunity to inspire interest in math and can even inspire creativity in the culinary arts. 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 11: Tuna recipes

Whenever I’m cooking, I have several questions in mind.  First, is the food healthy?  Can I make the recipe healthier?  Can I substitute something with less saturated fat or fewer calories?  Second, is the food sustainable?  Is eating this food contributing to the decline of certain species?  Is it farmed, caught, killed, harvested, or produced in sustainable ways?  And lastly, is the recipe flexible?  If I didn’t come up with the recipe myself, I tweak it a bit until I have a recipe I created on my own.  Can I change the flavors without losing the taste?  Will my picky husband eat it?   Continue reading 100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 11: Tuna recipes

100 Days of EarthFit- Day 3: Playing with Flavors

Already I am deviating from what I intended to discuss on this day.  But as I was cooking lunch, and came across an interesting “dilemma”.  I was making a favorite bulk recipe for Quinoa and Chicken Salad, and I was trying different flavors to see how I could change the recipe up a little. The Most Wonderful Time of the Year Part 2

I’m experiencing an influx of inspiration due to what I believe is the truly most wonderful time of the year.  It’s not just pumpkin season, although pumpkins are certainly the kings of the gourds.  It’s winter season, when many of our favorite fruits and vegetables have gone dormant and won’t sprout again until April or even later.  So, having food that is as versatile as pumpkin available in the winter time is a blessing. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I am very late on the writing of the post, but I think it’s better late than never.  And we’re still in the midst of what I think is the most wonderful time of the year.  However, I have to admit, that commercialization of this season is really starting to get to me, and I almost faltered, not doing ANY pumpkin flavored recipes until this past week.   Continue reading It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Have my Cheese and Eat it, too

I have been looking for a way to eat more animal friendly lately.  I have a few issues with cheese, but for the most part, I actually really love it!  Cottage cheese, cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella.  But the more I learn about our food industry, particularly hear in the United States, the more I am realizing that I should say farewell.  That is, until I borrowed a book from the library that may have actually changed the way I cook. And now I can have my cheese AND eat it too! Continue reading Have my Cheese and Eat it, too
